5 Stars Who Will Benefit From Twitter’s New Home Page
The redesign went into effect today.
Starting today, anyone who is not already logged in to a Twitter account will be greeted with a radically different home page when accessing the site.
Before now, the page had very little to offer and was essentially just a place to sign in with your password. That became a problem for a site that has been struggling to attract new users. According to the social media giant, over 500 million people visit Twitter each month without signing in, and a quarter of those head straight to the Twitter.com welcome screen.
There are now several clickable categories for browsers to choose that will show them examples of what they can expect once they join. These include News, Sports, Entertainment, Music, Humor & Novelty and Arts & Culture. Subcategories include Actors & Actresses, Video Games & Gamers and Cute Animals.
More from Twitter’s home page redesign.
As you’d expect, each contains tweets and images from Twitter accounts that fit into those particular groups. The new home page also includes a search bar where users can seek out what’s trending.
This should not only benefit Twitter, but it’s also GREAT news if you’re a newborn micro pig who’s just dying to be seen by even more of the world.
Many celebrity accounts should gain more visibility as well. Below are a few who we think might benefit the most.
He already has over 62 million, so Bieber may not *need* more followers… but he is sure to attract some with this redesign. He also has tweeted over 28,000 times and many of those are bound to turn up when new users explore the “Music” category on the home page.
Mindy has long had a reputation for being one of the funniest television personalities on Twitter. The star of FOX’s “The Mindy Project” is certain to gain more exposure by appearing in both the “TV Shows & Stars” and “Humor” categories.
We couldn’t make this list without including the Queen of Twitter, Katy Perry. She leads all users with over 68 million followers and with over 6,000 tweets to boot, Katy knows how to do social media right. We suspect she’ll be featured on Twitter’s new home page on more days than we can count.
The POTUS may not actually tweet out his messages himself, but his account is one of the most popular, with over 58 million followers. Add to that over 13,000 sent tweets and the president’s PR people are doing a commendable job. He’s sure to turn up in the new “Government” category on a regular basis.
If you don’t know him, you should. This Brazilian soccer star is one of the best known athletes in the world. His nearly 18 million Twitter followers are impressive enough, but where Neymar really excels is in his number of sent tweets — over 40,000 to date. That ranks him among the most prolific of the globe’s top celebrities. The site redesign can only make him an even bigger social media star.
