I brought this to the attention of Old Town customer service and they said that it is normal and the selling dealer should have brought it to my attention. Capacity is very good, I've taken 2 people of 220+ lbs with me on river trips comfortably - combined weight of probably 650 lbs, although we were riding a little low in the water. The kids were leaning out over the gunwales putting their fingers in the water and sure, it leans, but it is easy to manage, especially kneeling, and never felt like we were even close to tipping.
