According to the Strib John Reinan report, 63% of those who graduated from Minnesota schools in 2021 with a bachelor’s degrees had loans. The median debt was just below $24,000. Minnesota schools awarded 52% of associate degrees with loans. The median debt was just over $15,000. Mari Sitner graduated from Emerson College in Boston in 2021 with a Pell Grant. She left school with approximately $17,000 in debt. Sitner will be able to pay off her debt through the program. Sitner is currently a barista in Uptown Minneapolis as well as managing Bad Mouth Theatre Co., St. Paul. In a statement, Joan Gabel, President of the University of Minnesota, stated that the decision to eliminate student debt was ‘great news and ‘lines with the university’s work. She also noted the U’s new tuition-free programs for tribal members as well as students whose families earn less than $50,000.
WCCO TV reported that the Native American tradition of smudging has been allowed in St. Paul Public Schools. On Tuesday, the district’s board of education approved smudging policies. Smudging refers to the practice of lighting sacred herbs and sage for healing or cleansing the mind. The policy includes tobacco, sweetgrass, cedar, and sweetgrass as traditional Native American medicines.
KSTP-TV Brittney Emon, says that “Some Minnesota State Fair vendors have increased pricesto counter inflation and rising food cost.” Deep-fried pickles are another fan favorite. A regular order last year was $8. This year, it’s $9. A bucket of Sweet Martha’s cookies costs an additional buck. It was $18 last year, this year it’s $19.
Willamette Week in Oregon Anthony Effinger reports that the Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability published a climate emergency planning last month. It outlined all the actions the city needed to reduce the impact of climate change. These included removing coal-fired power stations, encouraging bicycles, retrofitting buildings and planting trees. The plan states that special efforts should be made in the ‘outer east’ where urban heat island impacts are more severe. BPS proposes that the East Portland Community Center be converted into an energy-efficient “resilience center” where people can go in extreme heat, smoke and cold. Residents of Argay Terrace in the ‘outer east” have a question. If doom really is imminent — to the point that the city must create some type of climate refugee centre then why is Portland allowing the owner of the Minnesota Vikings, a 260,000-square foot freight warehouse that would attract more diesel-powered trucks into an already-blighted neighborhood?
A story from The Racket states that “Bad news” for fans mechanical bull-riding or public intoxication. Wild Greg’s has now closed. “For two and a half year we have fought against endless mandates, lockdowns issued Gov. Greg Urban wrote on Wild Greg’s letterhead that Tim Walz and riots and unchecked crimes’ in a press release published Tuesday to facebook. “We made the difficult decision that the road towards a prosperous Minneapolis took longer than we expected and that closing this location was best for our interests,” Urban wrote on Wild Greg’s letterhead in a press release posted Tuesday to Facebook. Wild Greg’s had a difficult relationship with downtown Minneapolis. The bar was one of several downtown restaurants that sued Urban over vax mandates. Urban even went so far as to ban “Dictator Walz” from his establishment. We emailed Urban to find out if the ban was still in effect until the end. But we didn’t get a reply. Urban appeared on Fox News before making the closing announcement. He spoke in a segment entitled’Blue City biz owners struggle make comeback‘to bash Minneapolis. He said that Minneapolis is not the right place to be at the moment, as footage from New York City’s violent crime plays on the screen.
Alex Chhith from the Strib said, “The mother and father of a baby discovered at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport have been found. Police have cancelled an alert Tuesday night. Although the airport police did not provide any details, they thanked everyone who shared the alert overnight and provided information that allowed investigators locate her relatives. According to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, there were no reported missing or abducted children at the time of the alert.

KSTP TV Richard Reeve said that Andrew Voge believes he is lucky to be alive. Each day is a new challenge for the Maple Grove man. Voge quietly states that he was told he had six months left to live. “The realization that I had stopped riding my bike like two years ago because I didn’t have the energy to do it anymore.” Voge discovered that his Mayo doctors had partnered with the Cleveland Clinic, and almost sold his bike before we left. Rachel, Voge’s wife, learned about multi-organ transplants. This is a method to treat PMP patients by replacing cancerous organs with healthy ones donated from a donor. Voge would be able to receive five healthy digestive organs — a stomach, pancreas and a portion of the small intestine.
