Tim Nelson, MPR News’ correspondent, tells us that Monday’s fire destroyed the main building of a resort in northern Minnesota that had hosted many years of cross-country ski retreats as well as language camps, weddings, and conferences. People who have visited Maplelag Resort many times over the years were quick to share their memories, sympathy, and stories. The resort’s owners, located east of Callaway in Minnesota, stated that they intend to rebuild.
Forum News Service reports that a 12-year-old St. Paul boy was killed while squirrel hunting in northern Minnesota with his family. The shooting incident was reported by Sheriff’s Deputies at 8:19 a.m. on Sunday in Moose Lake Township (north of Motley). Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch reported that a St. Paul family was hunting squirrels in the area when their 47-year old uncle accidentally shot a 12-year-old boy.

Senior officials from the administration released a preview form which most borrowers will need to complete to get the loan forgiveness President Joe Biden first announced back in August. Jeff Goodman, one the most respected college basketball reporters in the country, stated that there was a “bunch of unhappy coaches today” because the Big Ten Media Day was in Minneapolis. Goodman said that the media turnout would be significantly lower. Goodman did not say why coaches were upset but everyone enjoyed Minneapolis’ women’s Final Four, which attracted a record crowd of 216,890 people. They will whine when Minneapolis hosts both the men’s conference tournament and the women’s basketball tournament of the Big Ten in 2023.

A NBC News Story by Julie Moreau states that Mary Moriarty, a Minnesota political candidate, decided to be herself with her constituents in January. Moriarty was a candidate for Hennepin County Attorney, which includes Minneapolis. She came out on the campaign trail as queer in January. Moriarty stated to NBC News that while it could have been risky to come out publicly during the campaign, he felt it was necessary. “This was a huge, major decision for me. Moriarty said, “This was a big, important decision for me.
