The state will now remove its gates in an effort to rectify an error from the past and perhaps move closer to a solution to a decade-old battle between the water needs for agricultural irrigation and fishing and aquatic life. In the 1970s, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), built the Little Rock Creek dam to artificially support a pond it hoped would be used by duck hunting. This is one of many obsolete dams that were built in the last century for almost forgotten reasons. They are now under scrutiny by the state and the public as they seek to restore natural water flow.
